We could use the help
Events need hands. So does admin, packing, and the unglamorous work that keeps a small organisation doing national work. If you have time to give, we'll find a good use for it.
What we actually need
We prefer being upfront, because "volunteer with us" is pretty vague until someone tells you what the actual work is.
Event days
Registration desks, water points, packing goodie bags, setting up and breaking down. The busiest need, and the easiest to start with.
Skills we're short of
Photography, video, design, translation, legal or financial advice. If you do something we can't afford to buy, tell us.
Caring for a patient in need
Sometimes a patient needs some additional support. It may be a grocery run, a pharmacy pick up or someone to read them a book.
What we ask for, and what you can expect from us
From you
Turn up when you say you will, and tell us early if you can't. That's most of it. There's no minimum commitment and no guilt if life gets busy.
From us
We'll tell you what the task actually involves before you commit, brief you properly on the day, and not waste your time. You'll be working alongside the team, not parked somewhere out of the way.
Before you start
There's a short onboarding to complete, and a volunteer agreement to sign. It isn't onerous, and we'd rather tell you now than spring it on you later.
Onboarding
A short induction with a team member covering what we do, how we work with patients and families, and what's expected of you on the day.
Volunteer agreement
Covers confidentiality and how patient information is handled, in line with POPIA. Our community trusts us with sensitive information, and that trust extends to everyone working alongside us.
