About the Event
The goal of Bone Marrow Stem Cell Donation & Leukaemia Awareness Month is to raise awareness and encourage people to donate bone marrow stem cells.
Bone marrow is a soft, spongy tissue found within bones that generates hematopoietic stem cells. Normally, these stem cells develop into healthy red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. A bone marrow or stem cell transplant replaces stem cells that have become cancerous, defective, or destroyed as a result of chemotherapy or radiation.
Leukaemia is a cancerous, progressive disease in which the bone marrow and other blood-forming organs produce an abnormally large number of immature or immature leucocytes. It is a cancer disease caused by a DNA mutation in your bone marrow's stem cells, which produce red blood cells, platelets, and infection-fighting white blood cells. This affects people of all ages, races, and social classes.
