About the Event

This awareness day emphasizes the critical importance of gynaecological health as foundational to a woman’s overall wellness. It centers on raising awareness that regular gynecological care—covering the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and vagina—is vital for hormonal balance, reproductive functioning, and emotional well-being. Preventive steps like routine Pap smears and pelvic exams can catch early signs of conditions such as cervical cancer, ovarian cysts, and STIs, which enhances treatment outcomes and long-term health.health.fs.gov.za

Key conditions highlighted include:

  • Endometriosis — tissue similar to the uterine lining grows elsewhere, often causing pain and fertility issues.

  • Uterine Fibroids — benign tumors that can provoke heavy bleeding and pregnancy complications.

  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) — hormonal imbalance leading to irregular periods, excess hair growth, acne, and fertility challenges.
