South African Breast Milk Reserve appeals for breastmilk donations

Writer's picture: Rare Diseases SARare Diseases SA

The South African Breastmilk Reserve is appealing to nursing mothers to donate breast milk. Executive director Stasha Jordan tells Joanne Joseph that they are currently running out of milk in their reserves.

The South African Breastmilk Reserve is a body that keeps these stocks for the benefits of babies who require breastmilk.

Jordan explains why breastmilk is important.

Donated breastmilk plays an absolutely integral role in the care of very low birth-weight premature babies.

She says not all mothers can breastfeed their premature babies.

Jordan says if a mother is living a healthy lifestyle she should consider donating.
