Chromosome 8p Day was established to increase public awareness of monosomy 8p, a rare genetic condition caused by the deletion of part of the short arm (p) of chromosome 8. Chromosome 8 carries genes essential for brain development, immune response, and cellular signaling, and abnormalities can affect multiple organs and systems
