About the Event

South Africa is home to an estimated 3 million people living with a rare disease.

RDAI, in partnership with Rare Diseases South Africa, is convening a national multi-stakeholder workshop to begin developing the country's first coordinated Rare Disease Action Plan, connecting South Africa's context to the WHO's Global Action Plan on rare diseases (WHA78.11, adopted May 2025).

The day brings together patient organisations, clinicians, researchers, funders, the pharmaceutical and life sciences industry, regulators, the National Department of Health and the WHO South Africa Country Office. Together we'll review the current landscape, work through structured discussions, and begin identifying shared priorities and next steps for South Africa.
