With Mandela Day not too far off, we have decided to start our charity drive a little earlier. This year we want to show our support for those that do so much for the most vulnerable of our communities – children! Every day there are children being admitted into hospital at a moment’s notice and we want YOU to help us make their stay a little easier.

We are calling on our community to create Be Brave Boxes inspired by the poem below. Your goodies can be packed into reusable plastic containers or even in a creatively wrapped shoe box.

Something yummy for my tummy,
Something nice for my precious
Mummy,
Something with which I can
play,
Something warm for my overnight
stay,
Something to keep me
clean,
Something to encourage my
dreams.

Need some inspiration? Not sure what to put in your care pack? Take a look at our Mandela Day Pinterest board here.

Dont have time to create a care pack? Make a pledge and we'll pack a box on your behalf. Click here to pledge a box for R250.

Paedspal is a registered Not for Profit Company: NPC 2016/023260/08 based in Cape Town, South Africa. A key palliative care belief is that there is never “nothing that can be done”. Even if a patient has a condition that is incurable, there is plenty that can be done to relieve suffering and to support the patient and family in their journey. Paedspal’s multi-disciplinary team provides services to children and their families both in the public and private sectors. The team provides a bedside consultative service to hospitalised children and an out-patient clinic service to ambulant children and their families.

Umduduzi – Hospice Care for Children is a fully registered and accredited Not for Profit and Public Benefit Organisation. We bring compassion, dignity, relevant care and relief from discomfort and pain to children diagnosed with a life threatening or life limiting illness within KZN. We do this through direct patient care, mentorship, empowerment of caregivers, training and advocacy. We are people who want the good deeds to happen everywhere and all the time.

Umduduzi treats children as people, not just as patients, and seeks to ensure that children with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions receive the best possible care and comfort.

Lambano is a care and Paediatric Medical Step-down Facility/Hospice facility for children with life limiting and life-threatening illnesses. We provide medical care in a safe environment to children who have been treated in a government hospital but still need a considerable amount of care. Hope in the form of reliable medical care and social support is our currency for each one.

We believe that every child under our care deserves the opportunity to make their contribution as one of the next generation of South Africans.
