Be the sunshine in someone's storm

Updated: Aug 13, 2025

Have you ever heard a loved one or friend say, “I’m so tired. I’m flat broke. I can’t even afford to feed my kids”?

For families caring for a child or parent living with a rare disease or genetic disorder, life isn’t just tough, it’s a constant battle. Every day is filled with exhausting challenges, endless appointments, and heartaches that most of us can hardly imagine. They feel drained - too worn out to walk the dog, too overwhelmed to cook a meal, and sometimes all they want is to disappear from the world. These families need a lifeline. They need someone to remind them they’re not alone. That’s where you come in.

By giving just a little of your time, you can bring hope, comfort, and joy to those who need it most. Here’s how volunteering can change not only their lives but yours too:

  • It restores hope and makes a difference in a life that feels heavy with struggle

  • It lifts your own spirit, building confidence and purpose

  • It connects you to a community bound by kindness and compassion

  • It allows you to share your unique gifts and make them matter

  • And most importantly — it reminds us all that no one should have to face their battles alone

If your heart is saying yes, I’d love to talk about how you can help make a real, lasting impact.

Please email events@rarediseases.co.za. Together, we can be the light in someone’s dark day.
