HOW TO CHANGE LIVES… BY RIDING YOUR BIKE

If you’ve always threatened to take part in the 947 Cycle Challenge but have been intimidated by the distance… then this year is your opportunity!

As I’m sure you would have seen by now, Discovery is the new sponsor of the 947 Cycle Challenge which will now be known as the Discovery 947 Ride Joburg! Apart from a name change, this years’ race sees a number of other changes including a shorter route for those who haven’t attempted the race before but want to participate. Other changes include:

The route remains the ‘reversed’ route which was attempted for the first time last year

The Mountain Bike races (25km and 55km) will start and end at Steyn City

The kiddies race is to be held at Steyn City this year with various distances depending on age group.

One thing that does remain the same is that you can enter and RIDE FOR A PURPOSE! If you would like to ride in aid of Rare Diseases South Africa, you can participate in either the main Discovery 947 Ride Joburg or the 40km Fun Ride. Whilst we can guarantee an earlier start time in the main event, the 40km ride won’t secure an earlier start time for charities but riders will all start in the same batch (they are still finalising seeding protocols). Event details are as follows:

THE DISCOVERY 947 RIDE JOBURG

Date: Sunday 17 November 2019

Start: Riversands Commercial Park

Finish: Riversands Commercial Park

Cost: R540 incl. VAT

This years’ race follows the reversed route which was attempted for the first time in 2018. Whist we received mixed reviews on the route, many preferred it to the traditional route. Regardless, the vibe along the route and the post-race hospitality is worth pedalling for! Enter to ride as part of team RARE ACTIVists and use your mobility for the benefit of those without.

THE 40KM FUN RIDE

Date: Sunday 17 November 2019

Start: Atholl Oaklands

Finish: Riversands Commercial Park

Cost: R440 incl. VAT

The Short Ride will start at Atholl Oaklands from 09h30* and join the main route onto the M1 South, continuing along the remaining Ride Joburg route through the Kyalami Grand prix Circuit, finishing at Riversands Commercial Park. Shuttles will be available to transport finishers at staggered intervals back to the short route start. (*subject to change)
